Session 1: Understanding ADHD
Symptoms, Challenges, and Treatments
Many parents of ADHD children feel frustrated and helpless. Their child is struggling in so many areas, and they’re just not sure how to help them. Session 1 lays the foundations for confident, happy, effective ADHD parenting. You’ll start by running through the 10 major goals this course will help you meet. Then, you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of ADHD, from its biological characteristics to the “why’s” behind your child’s struggles. And once you know the “why’s,” you’ll be ready to learn the “how’s” – how to accept your child and appreciate his struggles. How to deal effectively with his challenges. You’ll also gain helpful general information about ADHD treatments, including medication, coaching, and everyday wellness strategies.
Session 2: Empowering Your Child
Building Their Self-Esteem and Sense of Competence
The challenges of ADHD don’t stop with the disorder itself. Because of ADHD-related struggles, a proper clean ADHD face lots of failure. Itself a crushing emotional experience, failure is often followed by criticism and disappointment from themselves and those around them. These negative emotions wear away at their self-esteem, sense of capability, and motivation to improve, making repeated failure even more likely. Depression and despair often follow.
Session 2 teaches you as a parent how to end this “cycle of failure” and redirect your child toward a “cycle of success.” After stepping into your child’s shoes and exploring the negative emotional impact of ADHD, you’ll learn practical, doable techniques for boosting your child’s self-esteem, sense of competence, and motivation to work toward success.
Session 3: Empowering Compliments
Nurturing improvement in your child’s areas of struggle
Does this dilemma sound familiar? Your ADHD child needs to change – in so many ways – and it’s your job as a parent to guide her. But that means you have to spend your whole day criticizing, nagging, and pointing out what’s wrong with her – right? Not necessarily! Session 3 trains you in the art of “empowering compliments,” a powerful tool that nurtures improvement in your child through positivity and empowerment.
First, you’ll discover how to make sure your relationship with your child is in the right condition for this tool to work. Then, you’ll study the process of building effective “empowering compliments.” You’ll learn how to nurture your child’s emotional awareness. How to shift your focus from the results she produces to the effort she invests. And how to recognize, and teach her to recognize, the power and capabilities inside her.
Session 4: The Winning Triad: Parents, Teachers, and ADHD
Dealing effectively with school issues and maximizing your child’s school success
School is often a minefield of issues for children with ADHD. Sitting quietly through lessons, following school rules, focusing on their studies and managing schoolwork responsibilities are all huge challenges for ADHD students. Session 4 teaches you practical techniques for addressing all these issues and more.
You’ll start by gaining a deeper understanding of why your ADHD child finds school so difficult. Next, you’ll identify three major goals to help your child meet in school: to function normally as a student, experience reasonable success in school, and leverage his challenges to prepare him for life.

Session 5: Skills

Children with ADHD often fail to pick up crucial life skills like time management, organization, planning ahead, keeping track of responsibilities, following through on tasks, regulating emotions and much more. In Session 5, you’ll discover how to help your child build the everyday-functioning skills she might be missing. You’ll learn both how to deal with immediately occurring problems, and how to prevent future issues through skill-building.
What does the skill-building process look like? You’ll discover how to define the precise skills your child might be missing. How to break them down into subskills, and work on one subskill at a time. You’ll learn how to actually go about teaching those subskills, and how to reinforce them with simple, practical tools.
Session 6: Strategies
Teaching your child how to triumph over their struggles through independent problem-solving
Last session, you learned how to build your child’s functioning skills. Because your child will be dealing with ADHD his whole life, however, simply teaching her skills yourself isn’t enough. You also need to teach her how to create her own solutions for problems that arise throughout her life.
Session 6 teaches you a practical 8-step method for teaching your child how to problem-solve – how to create effective strategies to deal with any challenge she might face. You’ll also learn how to reinforce your child’s problem-solving successes, and how to respond to her failures in an empowering, encouraging way.
Session 7: Boundaries
Setting and enforcing rules your child will respect
Many parents feel very pessimistic about their ability to set boundaries. This session starts by proving your ability as a parent to set effective boundaries – and then teaches you how to do it!
You’ll study how to achieve the right balance between structure and flexibility in your home. You’ll learn how to lay the mental and emotional groundwork for your rules to be effective. Then you’ll discover the specific steps for creating boundaries that work, as well as how to enforce those boundaries with fair, effective consequences. You’ll also learn how to determine which issues you should be setting rules for – plus how to deal with issues that don’t merit rules.
Session 8: Social Skills
Building your child’s social skills and easing sibling rivalry
ADHD can make it very difficult to build and maintain smooth, successful relationships. Perhaps your child struggles with social skills. Maybe you’re dealing with intense sibling rivalry. Session 8 teaches you the 8-step process for building any social skills your child might be missing.
You’ll start by understanding exactly what social skills are, and why ADHD makes it harder to learn them. Then you’ll learn where sibling rivalry intersects with social skills, and how to ease its effects in your family. You’ll discover how to identify your child’s specific social struggles. How to teach and practice missing skills in a safe way. How to conquer negative thought patterns that hinder social success. And how to reinforce your child’s self-confidence and self-esteem along the way.
Session 9: Anger-Management
Dealing with your child’s anger outbursts and teaching healthy anger-management
The temper-tantrums and other anger-management issues that often accompany ADHD can make life extremely unpleasant for ADHD kids and their families. Session 9 teaches you practical strategies both to cope with your child’s outbursts as they occur, and to help him regulate himself and manage his anger in a healthy way.
You’ll start by delving into the underlying causes of your child’s angry behavior. Then you’ll discover how to recognize patterns in your child’s struggles, and how to use those patterns to identify and treat the roots of his behavior. Next, you’ll learn an array of practical skills and in-the-moment tips for helping your child keep his anger under control.
Session 10a: Motivation
Addressing your child’s “laziness” about fulfilling responsibilities and working to improve
ADHD children often seem too “lazy” or “unmotivated” to improve, or even to fulfill basic responsibilities like chores and schoolwork. Session 10a teaches you how to motivate your ADHD child to get working, improving, and succeeding.
First, you’ll take a deeper look at your child’s “laziness” – is she really lacking motivation? Then you’ll discover 5 common issues that might be decreasing her motivation, plus how to combat each issue and motivate her to work hard and succeed.
